Ron and Amie Brockway were both born in northeastern Ohio in 1938—he in March at Ashtabula General Hospital, and she (named Ama Ray Woodworth) in October at Warren General. Ancestors on both sides of both families immigrated from England in the 1620s and 1630s and descendants made their way from New England to Ashtabula County in the early 1800s—and stayed.
In July 2021, when Ron and Amie discovered that each had written extensively about their childhood journeys through World War II and its immediate aftermath, they exchanged manuscripts.
But wait, we’re getting ahead of ourselves!
Their childhood journeys brought them to Platt R. Spencer School in Geneva--he in the first grade in September 1944, and she in eighth grade in September 1951. They graduated together in May 1956, and were married in June. During the following 24 years they were blessed with two daughters and an array of unlikely adventures. Then, for the next 41 years they lived separate lives, each filled with even more unlikely adventures. Finally, in 2021, their 65th high school class reunion brought them back together and they were remarried in May of 2022. Now, living in Yulee FL, the adventures continue, and they share them here in their blog “Tales and Trails”. Enjoy!
